Hi Guildy,

my tenant has moved out i have not got the money currently to pay her deposit back, im on DPS insured scheme can I get them to pay back the deposit? How easy/difficult is it to do this, I’ve never claimed with DPS insured scheme before, how will this effect me? Can you claim on seperate insured agreements each time?

If a landlord fails to pay a tenant the deposit, the tenant can make a claim against the scheme who would pay it over.

However, we would strongly urge you against this.

A failure to return a deposit could mean exclusion from the scheme. Furthermore, the schemes are allowed to communicate with each other about people they have banned and all the other schemes could also prohibit you from using their scheme. This would result in you never being able to take a deposit again.
