New washing machine paid for by me is broken due to metal objects placed in washing by mistake by tenants

29 Oct 2017 | 1 comment

Three months ago I bought a new washing machine with a one year warranty. Two weeks ago the tenants contacted me saying it was leaking. The BEKO engineer came round and said it was a hole caused by coins. Took a photo and said it was up to the insurer to decide. There is no dent on the drum.
Who is liable to sort out this mess financially?

We would suggest that the tenant will be liable to pay for the repair of the washing machine in these circumstances.

That view will be more strengthened if our tenancy agreement has been used because it specifically states that white goods are the responsibility of the tenant in most cases so they will have agreed to be responsible.
