If you have a tenancy with a number of tenants on one tenancy agreement (joint and several), the service of a notice to quit by one tenant brings the entire tenancy to an end for all tenants [Hammersmith & Fulham LBC v Monk [1991] UKHL 6]. This is the case even without the others consent or knowledge.
This letter template is useful if one of joint tenants serves a notice to quit and you wish to know the actions of the other tenants. Do they wish to stay? Will they be leaving? Etc.
