During August, it’s generally a lot quieter on the help-line so we’ve been able to get lots of improvements to the website done!
Let’s have a look at what’s changed and what’s new …
New Ask a Question Service
We have today launched a whole new ask a question system.
The old system was hugely popular and has now become the most popular way for subscribers to ask questions about anything relating to renting property or for admin.
There are lots of useful information amongst these thousands of questions (2,482 to be precise) but it’s very difficult for subscribers to look at the answers because they weren’t categorised.
Since the launch of the new landlord knowledge bases which are based upon the landlord handbook, we’ve used those categories to compile information together and make articles in a new neat order.
Our new ask a question service makes use of these same categories and now when asking a question you first select country (England or Wales) and then under a category such as pre-tenancy, during a tenancy or ending a tenancy, a further drilled down subcategory for example, gas safety, entry and refusal, changing the rent etc.
There are also categories for admin, subscription, using website etc. too.
When viewing previous questions and answers you will now use the same system so you can jump straight in to find the answers you need.
Each category has a link back to the knowledge base and soon the knowledge base will have a direct link to every category for asking a question directly. Confused? Hopefully you’ll get used to it and see the benefits!
There are a few things to be completed though.
Firstly, England is ready to go but the England knowledge base hasn’t got all the links back to the questions just yet. This shouldn’t take too long to finish.
Wales questions are still under construction so for the time-being, please use England and make a note in any question that the property is in Wales. Again, it shouldn’t take too long to get Wales up and running and a start has already been made. (Now completed 20/08/2018).
Finally, the service will look a little empty at the moment. We have to bring across previous questions manually one by one so this will take some time. In reality, we are unlikely to bring all 2,000 across so will just prioritise the good ones. We will see how this goes. If someone was willing to this, we would pay and it’s quite simple to do, just time consuming and there’s no quick way to bulk bring across. If you know anyone, please get in touch.
You may have noticed the website has had a general redesign. We hope you like it. There’s a new logo and a new consistent colour scheme throughout. Not every page has caught up but we’re working on it.
New logos are available to download in the the membership area.
The Tenancy Builder has had a few updates during August so far.
Firstly, the assured tenancy (not assured shorthold) can be found in the Builder. Don’t use this agreement though unless you know what you’re doing! (It’s basically a lifetime tenancy)!
Now, you can have up to four landlord names in the agreements produced.
A logo is now possible to add to the front page of the ASTs.
Also, the back signature page is hopefully clearer that it’s signing for the whole tenancy and documents together.
There have been a few other tweaks and you can see the full list of changes here.
We have produced a new template asking a tenant to stop smoking.
A few forms have also had an update:
The receipt for deposit has been overhauled. It’s also almost ready for the tenant fees ban likely to be in force next year.
