Electrical Safety (England) | England | Responsibilities and Liabilities (England)

Electrical work overdue but no-one can do it!

27 May 2021 | 1 comment

After having all the electrical safety tests done on our properties we have two with problems, one minor and one fairly big job. We have NO C1 on anything.
I have now been in touch with 4 different electricians and not one has even quoted for the work. They either:

1. Don’t return calls and emails when they say they will;

2. Say they’re mad busy and they might be able to fit us in around August;

3. Just don’t turn up when they’ve made an appointment to quote, then ignore my calls.

I’m assuming I am now in breach of the law and potentially could be fined etc, but I don’t know what else I can do?

    We have no easy answer we’re afraid.

    The legislation simply says that where works are required on an inspection report, those works must be completed within 28 days.

    The legislation also states that where works are required, the initial report plus written confirmation from a qualified electrician that the works have been carried out should be sent to the local authority within 7 days of the final works being carried out.

    Best we can suggest is to keep trying. Perhaps try a national company such as British Gas who also offer electrical works. (This isn’t a recommendation as we’ve never used them but might have more chance of a visit).
