Ending a tenancy

Our tenant wants to move to a ground floor flat as he is too ill to get to his first floor flat.  He is in hospital at the moment,  if he gives notice are the council obliged to find him alternative ground floor accommodation.  He was about to move into alternative accommodation but took ill and the council have now withdrawn the offer,

    If they give notice, they won’t be entitled to anything because they’ll have made themselves intentionally homeless.

    If you gave notice, they might be entitled to help but that could take several years to find something suitable which is average waiting list times. There are still people waiting to be housed after the Grenfell disaster!
