Extending the lease

Hi Guildy,

There are 90 years remaining on the lease of or flat. We are considering extending it by issuing a fomal (section 42?) notice to the landlord. This is the first time we’ve done this, so can you give us, or point us to, any info on the process and costs. There are a number of firms that advertise their services but can you recommend anyone?

    Not our field of knowledge but we have a couple of suggestions.

    First, there’s an excellent website about all things leasehold provided by the Leasehold Advisory Service.

    Second, we have a solicitor on the website where Guild subscribers get a few minutes free consultation. We would expect such a transaction will be very routine to them and might be a good option.
