Mashroom Deposit Replacement option

22 Nov 2021 | 2 comments

Hi,

I have noticed that prospective renters (certainly in our area) increasingly appear to find it difficult to produce a home owner guarantor.  Understandable for recent arrivals/ non-natives – the larger proportion of applicants in many big cities these days.  I have looked at rent guarantee insurance and much appreciate your own comments.   Mashroom of course strongly push their deposit replacement product, which is free (to landlords) whilst renters pay the equivalent of one weeks rent, spread over several months.  My issue with all of these products is that there appears little disincentive (potential loss) to rogue renters and problem tenants.  That said, I would be very interested to know what the experience has been for any landlords attempting to recover losses via Mashroom’s deposit replacement.  I haven’t seen anything online anywhere.  I know it’s relatively new.  Are you aware of any?  Would you offer you thoughts/ experience please?

We haven’t personally used their no deposit scheme and we haven’t had any feedback from subscribers (neither good nor bad).

Will leave the question open for others to reply to if they are able.
