Changing the Rent (England) | During the Tenancy (England) | England

Regulated tenancies

17 Nov 2021 | 1 comment

Hello

Just a quick question regarding regulated/protected tenancies.  I understand that the rent can be increased no more than every two years, and that the new rent asked for by the landlord must be assessed by the rent officer.  How much can a rent be increased by if no improvements have been made to the property?  Can the rent be increased by more than 10% per month? Tenants have been in the property for 50+ years.

That type of tenancy is governed by “fair rents” which the rent officer will apply a formula (which nobody understands) to establish the maximum fair rent.
