SMOKE ALARM CHECKS

1 Dec 2020 | 1 comment

We have a smoke alarm that requires changing in one of our properties, the alarm is working but is out of date and needs replacing.  However we have written to our tenants for access and they have informed us they are currently shielding as per the government guidelines until the new year.  Is this acceptable and can we delay until the restrictions have been lifted, as Landlords are required by law to ensure smoke alarms are checked regularly?

Shielding would overrule any replacing of an alarm which is working. The date is generally a guide so should be just fine.

For the duties of a landlord under the smoke regulations, please see here.
