Does a standard AST on a 6 month Fixed Term automatically become a Statutory Periodic Tenancy on expiry of the Fixed Term ?

    That is correct.

Technically our tenancies actually continue as a contractual periodic tenancy but the effect is the same and the tenant remains in occupation on a periodic tenancy rolling on the same periods as the rent (e.g. if monthly rent, it rolls on monthly).
