The Welsh Government has previously produced a Renting Homes White Paper which includes a proposal for new types of contract when letting dwellings in Wales.
One such contract is proposed to be a ‘standard contract’ which is “modelled on the assured shorthold tenancy that is used mainly in the private rented sector”.
The Welsh Government are seeking views on the layout and format of the model contract:
While detailed work is under way on drafting the Bill, taking into account the White Paper responses and other stakeholder comments, we also want to consult on the format and layout of the contract documents that will be needed (subject, of course, to the Bill being agreed by the Assembly and receiving Royal Assent). We hope the consultation will also give people a better understanding of how the new arrangements would work in practice.
The Welsh Government are putting on events throughout Wales or the consultation can be replied to online.
The events are scheduled as below and further information and booking requirements can be found on the consultation page.
Cardiff – 13th August 2014
Llandudno Junction – 18th August 2014
Aberystwyth – 27th August 2014
Swansea – 3rd September 2014
Cardiff – 8th October 2014
The contract reads like a handbook of housing law and is 26 pages long i.e. 52 pages of printing for every tenancy. What is wrong with on-line information for tenants?
The draft contract is horrid! A lot of work needed I think.
